Client Profile & Challenge
Our Client is a $1BN e-commerce grocery shopping and delivery services company.
Challenge:
Our Client was undergoing a rapid digital transformation focused on analytics and was seeking to democratize data assets to support decisions across the organization. Legacy reporting processes, however, lacked true Data Governance, causing confusion and mistrust of data company-wide. Our Client needed a solution to balance accessibility and governance to truly unlock the value of their analytics initiative.
Solution Overview
Messina Group worked with our Client to specify a Data Governance Program specific to their organization, including defining the overall team structure, RACI, and all related technology and process enablers. This Data Governance structure promoted proper ownership and partnership across each functional area of the business, ensuring there was a shared understanding of metric definitions, context, source data lineage, and responsibility for stewardship and changes. This framework promoted quicker adoption of the front-end analytics, more efficient usage of the data to make decisions, and better feedback on value-add initiatives to include in the program.

“AFTER” BUSINESS VALUE CREATION
The Data Governance program was highly successful at preserving the democratization of data, while also instilling confidence and consistency in company-wide reporting. This program lead to the retirement of hundreds of reports, data marts, and other bespoke shadow IT processes, reducing technical debt by 90% and promoting adoption from over 500 users across the organization. The collaboration structure of the Data Governance team consistently brought more value-add ideas into the program through their shared understanding of the data relationships and usage across functional areas, breaking free from the traditional silos that plagued analytics in the organization prior to this engagement.
